From corporate days to weddings and receptions, country and manor houses are great locations to host never-to-be-forgotten events. One such venue is Hedsor House, a Georgian-style mansion in Buckinghamshire overlooking the river Thames.
A house with a history
A great country house should ideally have a great deal of stories to tell and the fact that Hedsor House is thought to have been built in 1166 shows that the beautiful stately home has a rich history to go with its sumptuous facade.
Once owned by the Hedsor family, the venue welcomed regal guests in centuries past with visits from kings, queens and royal children from nearby Windsor Castle. More recently, the mansion has opened its doors to Hollywood film stars and has even appeared on screen as part of TV and film productions.
Hedsor House remains privately owned and is now managed by the fourth generation of the Shephard family.
A unique venue
Hedsor House was unusually modelled on the Italian villa style, originally featuring a domed hall as opposed to the traditional open courtyard that most houses of the era exhibited. After being damaged quite badly by a fire back in 1795, the current house was completed in 1868 and has been regularly renovated and restored over its 800-year history.
Since launching as a private venue, the estate has welcomed no less than 75,000 guests and hosted more than 500 events. The immaculate centre hall with its domed ceiling is still the focal point of Hedsor to this day – the same hall in which Queen Victoria used to visit for tea during her time in London.
With many functions taking place in this heart of the house, this area is kept in immaculate condition and features luxurious furnishings alongside modern functions such as electricity points and Wi-Fi. Also centre of attention is the old ballroom with its magnificent 150-year-old panelling.
